To best ensure that all of our volunteers are properly empowered, equipped, and encouraged, the following process is in place:

1.   Let us know your desire to volunteer! A main way we find volunteers is through the completion of a Volunteer Interest sheet. We simply receive your information, areas of volunteer interest, and any basic skills you have. Once in our database, you will receive regular email notifications of upcoming volunteer opportunities. CLICK HERE to fill out a Volunteer Interest Form or download a form to send to Habitat.

2.   Attend a Volunteer Orientation eXperience (VOX). All of our volunteers must go through VOX. VOX is offered twice a month, on the 1st Monday evening of each month from 6:30-7:30pm, and on the 3rd Saturday morning of each month from 9-10am. Volunteers learn about Habitat, volunteering basics, and fill out an assessment of how they are “built” – a discovery tool to better understand not just your skills, but also what uniquely makes you “you”. The better we can understand and value you, the better we can make your volunteer experience with Habitat. To register for a VOX class on Monday evenings, CLICK HERE, and to register for a Saturday morning VOX class, CLICK HERE.

3.   Construction Volunteers must take a safety class. Habitat for Humanity International offers an online volunteer safety class. We want you to have a lot of fun while volunteering with us, but we also desire that you are safe on the build site. The class is found at: www.hfhvolunteerinsurance.com.

4.   Start volunteering! As stated earlier, once you are in our database and have completed the necessary classes and training, you will be informed of volunteer opportunities. Depending upon your interest, you will be contacted either by the HFHSC office or by one of the Steering Committees. But please feel free to contact us as well to get started! We love motivated volunteers!

5.   Keep your skills sharp. The more you use your skills, the better you become…so volunteer often! To help you with this, we are also planning on offering regular workshops on basic construction skills.

Again, allow me to emphasize the importance of our volunteers. Not one minute of your time or energy is taken for granted! You are highly valued and appreciated and we are committed to your success as a Habitat volunteer. Any questions, comments or concerns about your volunteer experience can be directed to HFHSC’s Volunteer Manager, Ryan Mobley at: volunteer@habitatsangamon.com or 217-523-2710.
