Home Ownership Program Informational Sessions

Interested in applying for Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County's Homeownership Program? Get the facts, gather information, and ask general questions during these one hour informational sessions. There is no fee, however, reservations are required. Please contact the Habitat Office, 217-523-2710 to reserve your spot. Choose a session - All sessions present the same content and need only be attended once, unless you would like to repeat a session. More sessions will be scheduled as needed.   

All sessions are one-hour long & take place at the Habitat Offices, west entrance, 2744 S Sixth St, Springfield, IL

Looking for an affordable opportunity to buy a simple, decent home?

Before reviewing the criteria for Habitat's home ownership program, please understand: Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County is not an "emergency" housing agency. 

Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County offers home ownership opportunities to families who are unable to obtain conventional house financing. 

Basic Homeowner Criteria

  • Need for adequate housing (unsafe, unhealthy, overcrowded, rent-burdened, are examples)
  • Ability to repay the home mortgage - (is your credit good, or repairable? Applicant is not eligible for a Habitat home if individual has filed bankruptcy in the last two years)
  • Willingness to work in partnership with Habitat - (willingness to perform "sweat equity" hours, attend monthly home owner meetings, and help in the planning/building/renovating of a Habitat home)
  • Income cannot exceed 80% of the median family income for Sangamon County, as established by the Department of Health and Human Services - see summary
