Ways To Give

Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County’s mission is fulfilled through generous donations from the local community. Contributors to Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County are individuals, trusts and family foundations, corporations, civic, professional and fraternal organizations, religious congregations, faith-based coalitions, schools and other educational institutions.

Contributions to Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County can be made through a variety of means—including online giving, cash donations, in-kind donations (materials and/or services), memorial/honorarium gifts, corporate donations, corporate matching programs, donations of stocks/property, ReStore donations, United Way giving, vehicle donations to Cars for Homes™, Legacy Society (planned giving), and sponsorship of a Habitat home for a family in need. All donations are tax-deductible and each gift truly helps a local family in need.

In-Kind Donations

In-kind donations of materials and/or services are greatly appreciated, as they help lower the cost of house construction for Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County. If you have excess construction equipment/tools that can be used on a new Habitat house or professional labor skills (including HVAC, plumbing, electrical or flooring installation as well as landscaping or engineering services) to donate, please contact Construction Manager John Cicci by phone at (217) 523-2710 ext. 14 or by email at jcicci@habitatsangamon.com.

Memorial/Honorarium Gifts

A thoughtful way to honor a special person or to offer a memorial gift is through a donation in your loved one’s honor to Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County. A card will be mailed to the person acknowledging your gift, and you will also receive an acknowledgment for your records.

Corporate Donations

Partnerships with businesses, corporations, congregations, and civic groups offer vital support in Habitat for Humanity’s mission to build simple, decent and affordable housing in Sangamon County. Partnerships provide valuable financial assistance for the construction of new Habitat houses while also offering memorable team-building opportunities for groups who wish to work together on scheduled days.

Corporate Matching Programs

If your company has a matching gift program, you may be able to increase your donation to Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County. To find out, ask the Human Resources Department of your workplace. In some instances, corporations will also offer to match their employees’ volunteer work hours at the building site with corporate donations.

ReStore Donations

Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County’s ReStore accepts donations from contractors, suppliers, individuals and organizations, and re-sells these goods to the general public to help fund the construction of new Habitat houses within the local community. The ReStore performs a valuable community service by diverting large amounts of reusable materials from landfills and providing these products to the public at affordable prices.

You can support the ReStore by donating building materials from your own home or by shopping for the quality goods offered at the ReStore! Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County’s ReStore is located at 1514 West Jefferson Street in Springfield, and open Monday through Friday from 10 am – 7 pm and Saturday from 9 am – 5 pm.

United Way Giving

Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County is a certified United Way agency. If you are a United Way of Central Illinois donor, you can specify Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County on your annual United Way giving form and your regular donation will then be allocated to help fund Habitat for Humanity’s homeownership program.

Vehicle Donations to Cars for Homes™

Do you have an older car, truck, van, trailer, RV, or boat that you no longer need? By donating a vehicle to Habitat’s Cars for Homes™ donation program, you can help fund the construction of new Habitat houses in the local community while also saving yourself the time and energy of finding a buyer. It is quick and easy to donate cars, trucks, boats, RVs, motorcycles, construction equipment or other vehicles — running or not! In addition, your vehicle donation may be eligible for tax deduction purposes (please consult a tax professional and see this IRS publication for reference).

Car donations can help a family within your local community build a house and the hope of a better life!

Legacy Society (Planned Giving)

The Habitat for Humanity Legacy Society was founded to recognize the importance of legacy gifts in accomplishing the vision of a world without poverty housing. To become a member of the Legacy Society, you must plan to benefit Habitat for Humanity after your lifetime—whether in the form of a bequest, annuity or other planned giving arrangement—and notify Habitat of your plans. It is not necessary to reveal the financial details of your planning, but this information may be helpful in Habitat’s long-range financial planning.
