What is the Habitat ReStore?
Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County’s ReStore is the place to shop for new and gently-used home building materials at affordable prices!
The ReStore accepts donations from contractors, suppliers, individuals and organizations, and re-sells these goods to the general public to help fund the construction of new Habitat houses within the local community. Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County’s ReStore performs a valuable community service by diverting large amounts of reusable materials from landfills and providing these products to the public at affordable prices.
Is the ReStore open to the public?
Yes! Anyone is welcome to shop at the ReStore. Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County’s ReStore is located at 1514 West Jefferson Street in Springfield, and open Monday through Friday from 10 am – 6 pm and Saturday from 9 am – 5 pm.
What does the ReStore sell?
Sales items may consist of—but are not limited to: stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, washers, dryers, cabinets, lighting and plumbing fixtures, carpet and padding, flooring, tools, new paint, windows, doors, and assorted furniture.

Where do items come from?

How often do you get new merchandise?
Our inventory changes often, as we are receiving new items weekly—if not daily.
What donations can the ReStore accept?
- Appliances: Must be clean and in complete working order. 10 years old or less Examples: washer, dryer, refrigerator, microwave, stove, etc.
- Architectural Items: Columns, antiques, mantles, etc.
- Kitchen and Bath: Complete with doors, drawers, and no damage.
- Carpet and Pad: New items only.
- Countertops: Good condition, minimal chips or damage.
- Doors: With jambs, no broken glass, good condition, free of bowing and twisting, holes and deep gouges, water damage and splintering.
- Electrical: Usable fixtures, parts and supplies, no broken glass. Ceiling fans must be in complete working order with all pieces intact.
- Flooring: Wood, ceramic tile, vinyl.
- Hardware: Knobs, hinges, locks, nails, cabinet pulls, bolts, nuts, screws.
- Landscape Materials: Patio and paving stone, brick.
- Lumber: At least 8 feet in length. If deconstructed, must be completely de-nailed, free of rot and water damage, free of excessive twisting and bowing.
- Plumbing: Usable fixtures, parts and supplies.
- Plywood Sheathing: ½ or full sheets in good condition.
- Roofing Materials: Full bundles only. Drip edge full lengths.
- Siding: Vinyl or aluminum, full boxes only.
- Tools: Hand, garden, and working power.
- Windows: Insulated glass, no broken glass, no sashes.
What donations can the ReStore NOT accept?
- Lead-Based Materials
- Used or Open Paint
- Toxic Materials
- Windows (Parts or Pieces)
- Bedding (of Any Kind)
- Clothing
- Hollow Doors
- Sofa Beds
- Cast-Iron Tubs
How do I go about donating an item?
If you have a donation that you’d like to make to the ReStore, call the donation hotline at (217) 691-5653 to schedule a pick-up time—in order to be eligible for a pick-up, the donor must live within the City limits. Donations can also be delivered to the ReStore at 1514 West Jefferson Street in Springfield during store hours—Monday through Friday from
10 am – 6 pm and Saturday from 9 am – 5 pm.
Where do the proceeds from the sales go?
Proceeds earned from ReStore sales support Habitat For Humanity of Sangamon County's mission to build simple, decent and affordable housing in partnership with the community for all God’s people in need.
Are my donations tax-deductible?
Your donation may be tax-deductible, depending on your individual situation. Please consult a tax professional and see this IRS publication for reference.
Does the ReStore place a value on the donation?
No, it is the donor’s responsibility to value the donation. A receipt acknowledging your donation will be provided to you at the time of the donation.
How can my business get involved?
Local businesses can contribute to the ReStore many ways, including: making a financial contribution, donating goods/materials, sponsoring a special event, placing an advertisement for or with the ReStore, volunteering at the ReStore, or shopping at the ReStore.
How can I help?
The ReStore is always searching for volunteers to help stock shelves, organize displays, pick-up donations, and assist with general store upkeep!
